Soft corn
A soft corn (interdigital clavus, clavus mollis) is a corn between the toes – usually between the 4th and 5th toes. Because it is moist there, the callus remains soft and whitish, but is often very painful.
Causes
- shoes that are too tight and pointed, squeezing the toes together
- toe deformities such as hallux valgus or hammer toes
- bony protrusions on the toe joints (exostosis)
Our treatment
We gently remove the clavus including its core and then relieve the area with a custom toe separator or a silicone orthosis. Important: do not treat soft corns with corn plasters – this further softens the skin between the toes and wounds can develop.
