Plantar fasciitis

Plantar fasciitis is an irritation of the plantar fascia – the strong tendon plate running from the heel to the toes that stabilises the longitudinal arch. It is the most common cause of pain on the sole in the heel area and often occurs together with a heel spur.

Typical

  • sharp heel pain during the first steps in the morning (“start-up pain”)
  • pain after sitting or standing for a long time
  • tenderness on the inside of the heel

Causes

  • overload, e.g. from running or standing for long periods
  • excess weight
  • foot deformities such as flat or high-arched feet
  • shortened calf and foot muscles
  • flat shoes with poor cushioning

What helps?

Stretching exercises for the calf and sole, cushioning shoes, insoles with heel pads and rest. For persistent complaints, physiotherapy or shock-wave therapy prescribed by a doctor can help. We relieve callused pressure points on the heel and advise on care.
