Medical foot care
In Germany, the term “medical foot care” (medizinische Fußpflege) is protected by the Podiatrists Act – just like the professional title “Podologin/Podologe” (podiatrist). Only those who have completed the two-year full-time training with a state examination may offer medical foot care. More about the profession under podiatry.
The difference from cosmetic foot care
- Cosmetic foot care: care of healthy feet – trimming nails, removing calluses, moisturising, polishing. The title “foot care specialist” is not protected.
- Medical foot care / podiatry: prevention and treatment of pathological changes – e.g. corns, ingrown nails, thickened nails, treatment of at-risk patients with diabetes or circulatory disorders.
How do I recognise a podiatry practice?
By the professional title “state-certified podiatrist” and by its approval by the health insurance funds: only approved practices may bill for doctors’ prescriptions. In our practice we offer both – medical and cosmetic foot care. All our services at a glance.
